Course Description
This early season 30-mile shoreline course follows the east bank of Ross Lake Reservoir. The trail winds in and out of creek drainages offering up sweeping views of pristine snowcapped peaks. At Lightning Creek the trail turns east and climbs towards Hozomeen, whose jagged skyline shadows the north end of Ross Lake, the Canadian border, and the finish line.
Itinerary
Because of the substantial transportation logistics for this course, it necessitates a 2-day excursion. Aspire is committed to providing exceptional service and support to ensure an unforgettable experience. The following schedule is a tentative outline of what to expect over the course of the trip.
Friday 13th May
5:00pm. Convene in Burlington WA. I-5 Exit #232. Meet in the parking lot of Bob’s Burgers and Brews: 9440 Old Hwy 99 N, Bow, WA 98232. Look for the green Suburban with “Aspire Adventure Running” decals.
5:30. Depart for campsite.
7:00. Arrive camp. Aspire will serve an evening meal, conduct a course overview and orientation, runners pack/prep for an early start.
Saturday 14th May
6am. Wake up. Enjoy a hot pre-run breakfast. Prep and pack for the day’s run.
7:00. Depart for East Bank Trail Head.
7:30. Run. Travel time estimated between 7-10 hours.
1:30-6:30. Arrive Hozemeen. Race bags, personal gear and equipment will all be waiting. Delicious food, drinks, and celebratory meal served.
7:00. Depart for Burlington, WA. It’s a 4-hour drive.
11:00. Arrive Burlington.
Gear
It is said that there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. Proper equipment and clothing are essential for a safe and comfortable experience in the mountains. Attention and adherence to the following guidelines is essential.
Running Gear
Each runner should come equipped with a personal running pack/vest, hydration system, water filtration, and personal snacks. Aspire has a selection of bars, gels, electrolytes etc. available, but we also encourage folks to bring foods that they are accustomed to for long runs. Running clothing should include a system that includes, a wind/waterproof jacket and an insulative layer.
Drop Bag
A bag of post-run clothing options that includes a down/synthetic jacket, wind/water resistant outer layer, dry clothing, and dry shoes.
Camping Gear
A tent, sleeping bag, pad, and camp clothing suitable for a spectrum of mountain weather. If your travelling from out of town or don’t want to worry about overnight gear, this equipment is available for rent with registration.
